De Hems Dutch Cafe Bar

De Hems Dutch Cafe Bar is on Macclesfield Street in Soho, on the edge of Chinatown, and bills itself as the only authentic Dutch pub in London, pouring an extensive range of draught Dutch and Belgian beers alongside Dutch-inspired dishes and bar snacks.

The pub has a long history: the site was once the Horse & Dolphin coaching inn, later run as an oyster-house by a retired Dutch sea captain, "Papa" De Hem, after whom it was renamed in 1959. During the Second World War it became an unofficial meeting place for Dutch resistance exiles, and at the turn of the century it hosted the Oranje Boom-Boom Cabaret comedy club. Today it occasionally hosts film screenings and cinema events.
