About

The People's Letters is a "worker-led, cooperatively run bookshop in East London" on Cambridge Heath Road in Bethnal Green, describing itself as a "Co-operative bookshop, event & community space". It was founded by booksellers who unionised at their former workplace over job security and zero-hour contracts, and who rebuilt as a worker-run co-op after that shop closed.

The shop is open daily and its two rooms double as a hireable events space, hosting book launches, book clubs, workshops, craft socials, talks and film screenings — often as fundraisers. Its stated values centre "the needs of the communities we are part of, especially sex workers, queer and trans people, disabled and neurodivergent people, migrants, working-class people, and people of colour". The whole space is on one floor, with step-free access and an accessible bathroom.
