It makes "award-winning, trailblazing theatre" and runs a grassroots community centre with workshops, clubs and family activities, driven by its vision "for thriving communities where people are nourished by theatre and culture". Alongside its theatre and community programme, Hackney Showroom occasionally hosts film screenings and cinema events.
