Hong Kong Film Festival UK is a diaspora-led festival founded in 2022 to “shine an international spotlight on a new wave of cinema from Hong Kong and the Hong Kong diaspora in the UK”, and through that cinema to spark exchange between Hong Kong communities and the world. It programmes East and Southeast Asian cinema with a particular focus on Hong Kong, favouring independent work that is rarely seen in the UK.
Each edition spreads across cinemas around London, mixing contemporary features and UK premieres with restored classics, experimental moving-image work and a filmmaker in focus. Screenings come with introductions, Q&As and discussions, alongside a wider programme of events built around the films.
